3 Steps to Creating Your Own Fitness Dance Routines

Last Updated on Mar 15, 2018

Fitness dance routines are all the rage right now. I'm sure most of your readers are familiar with the Zumba and PoleDivas programs. It's no joke that fitness dancing classes can add a lot of money to your gym's coffers at the end of every month. If you're looking at adding a cardio dancing class to your gym's fitness program, but you don't want to pay the licensing or training fees associated with the other dance programs, you can do something else…create your own! It's not as difficult as you think, and you never know, you might just go on to start franchising it.

Create Your List of at least 15 Dance Moves

First and foremost, before you can start a fitness dancing program, you need to have a go-to set of moves. These can be anything from your regular old fashion burpee to something that you designed yourself. Regardless, sit down with your trainers and create your list of moves. These are going to be the building blocks of your routine, so make sure they offer some physical benefit, are enjoyable, and are easy enough to learn for your students. If you're going to be including weights in your routine, make sure to take into account the fact that weights and fast movements can cause more injuries than just body weight. Take a look at some Fitness Dancing DVDs for dance move ideas.

Find the Right Music to Choreograph Your Moves

There's nothing worse that going to a cardio dancing class with a boring soundtrack. Take your time and create a fun playlist with lot of exciting music. Addictive music will make your classes more fun, and in turn, get more people to sign up. If everyone is talking about this "few fun dance program with sick music" at your gym, you're going to have people lining up out the door. If you're looking for places to start, check out Spotify. They have some GREAT pre-made soundtracks that can really help you pump up a crowd.

Keep Practicing Until the Routine is Second-Nature

Once you finished designing your dance moves and have a good soundtrack worked out, it's time to get to work. Weave your moves together with good music into a 45-minute routine. After finalizing your dance routine, it's time to get to work and start memorizing it. You can't be in class and forget which move comes after your "tummy burner" move. You need to be ready for the entire 45-minutes. So train, train, train and train, and it will pay off when you're able to do your workout AND motivate your students at the same time.
